Mother Breastfeeding Baby

Postpartum Care Amsterdam

Because what happens after birth matters as much as birth itself

"The first forty days is a period of time... You recover from birth, your baby unfurls slowly into the world... and together you devote yourselves to forging your relationship outside the womb." — Heng Ou

The first weeks after birth are the most important for your long-term recovery — and the most overlooked.
Pregnancy and Childbirth are the threshold into motherhood: the first 40 days are the Sacred Window into motherhood. You deserve to be held.

In most cultures across history, the weeks after birth were treated as sacred — a protected window of rest, nourishment and tending, where the community gathered around the new mother so she could heal fully before re-entering the world.

In the Netherlands, kraamzorg fills part of this role beautifully. But it ends after eight to ten days — and for many women, that is exactly when the real postpartum begins. The exhaustion deepens. The support disappears. The expectation to cope returns.

This is the gap I work in.

I offer two distinct forms of postpartum support — different in nature, complementary in purpose. Many families choose both. Most families need at least one.

If you are currently pregnant and want to plan your postpartum care from the start — the Continuum packages combine birth doula support with postpartum care into one devoted journey. [Explore the Continuum →]

Two ways I can support you

Ayurvedic Postpartum Home Visits

Deep physical and emotional restoration through specialist body work

For the woman who wants to be genuinely restored — not just supported. Each three-hour visit weaves Ayurvedic treatments into a deeply nourishing experience: Marma therapy, belly binding, womb Moxa, birth story integration, herbal care and nourishment guidance.

This is specialist work. It addresses the physical recovery of your womb, your tissues and your nervous system at a depth that no other postpartum offering in Amsterdam provides.

From €182 per visit — Green Bottle pricing available

Postpartum Doula Support

Flexible presence, practical support and emotional holding across the fourth trimester

For the family who needs someone to be there — consistently, flexibly, without an agenda beyond supporting you. A postpartum doula visit looks like whatever you need on that day: emotional holding, newborn care guidance, feeding support, light household help, space to talk, permission to rest.

This is not treatment — it is presence. The kind of steady, non-judgmental companionship that makes the difference between surviving postpartum and moving through it with genuine support.

From €422 for 10 hours — Green Bottle pricing available

Can I have both?

Yes — and for many families, both together creates the most complete postpartum support possible.

The Ayurvedic visits tend to focus on your physical recovery — your body, your womb, your nervous system, your sleep, your digestion. The postpartum doula visits tend to focus on your daily life — the feeding, the household, the emotional landscape, the practical questions.

They serve different needs and can be scheduled on different days across your postpartum window. Together they form something close to the traditional village support that birth has always deserved.

If you are unsure which is right for you — or whether you want both — the intro call is the right place to explore it.

The best time to think about this is before your baby arrives
The women who experience the most nourishing postpartum are almost always the ones who planned for it during pregnancy — not in the rushed, exhausted days after birth.

I offer postpartum planning as part of The Continuum package — my combined birth doula and postpartum care offering — and as a standalone session for women booking postpartum support independently.

How this sits alongside kraamzorg

Kraamzorg is a wonderful and uniquely Dutch system — practical, reliable and focused on newborn care and basic maternal recovery. It is not a substitute for what I offer, and I am not a substitute for it.

My postpartum support goes deeper — into your physical recovery, your birth story, your nervous system, your emotional landscape, and the transition into motherhood that kraamzorg was never designed to hold.

Many of the families I work with use both — and find they complement each other beautifully: some families need more support hours that their kraamzorg can offer, because of specific physical, psychological or practical and logistic reasons.

Whatever your birth looked like — gentle or intense, at home or in hospital, straightforward or complicated — your recovery deserves the same quality of attention.
