Postpartum Doula Amsterdam
Flexible, consistent presence across the fourth trimester — for the whole family
The day kraamzorg ends is often the day the hardest part begins.
The baby is still waking every two hours. You are still bleeding, still sore, still learning how to feed. Your partner feels the weight too. The visitors stop coming to help. And the expectation — subtle but relentless — is that you should be managing by now.
A postpartum doula does not manage you. She sits with you. She shows up, consistently, in whatever shape that day needs.
Sometimes that looks like holding the baby while you shower and sleep. Sometimes it looks like sitting with you while you cry without knowing why. Sometimes it looks like making soup, folding laundry and reminding you that what you are doing is extraordinary.
There is no agenda. There is only you — and whatever you need today.
Who this is for
This support is for you if:
-
You want consistent, flexible support beyond the kraamzorg period
-
You are an expat without family nearby — navigating postpartum without your village
-
You are a solo parent managing everything alone
-
You had a difficult birth or complicated recovery and need extended support
-
Your partner has returned to work and you are not ready to be alone all day
-
You are struggling with feeding and want ongoing, non-judgmental guidance
-
You simply want someone in your corner — present, steady and without an agenda
There is no minimum level of difficulty required to deserve support. Wanting help is enough.
What postpartum doula support actually looks like
No two visits look the same — because no two days in postpartum are the same. Here is the range of what I offer within each visit:
Emotional support
Someone to talk to. To process your birth, your recovery, your fears, your joy, your grief, your identity shift. Without advice unless you ask for it. Without rushing. Without judgment.
Newborn care guidance
Settling techniques, sleep cues, handling, bathing, soothing — guidance rooted in evidence and in attunement to your specific baby and your specific parenting instincts.
Feeding support
Breastfeeding positioning, latch support, paced bottle feeding, combination feeding — whatever your feeding journey looks like, I support it without agenda. Fed is always enough.
Rest facilitation
I hold the baby. You sleep. This is not a small thing — it is often the most important thing.
Light household assistance
A load of laundry, a clean kitchen, a meal prepared — the practical support that frees you to rest and to be with your baby rather than managing an overwhelmed household.
Partner support
Many partners feel uncertain, sidelined or quietly overwhelmed in postpartum. I include them — answering questions, reassuring, helping them find their role alongside you.
Signposting and referral
If something is beyond my scope — physically, emotionally or medically — I will always tell you clearly and help you find the right support.

How this is different from Ayurvedic postpartum care
Both offerings come from the same philosophy — that new mothers deserve to be genuinely held. But they serve different needs.
Postpartum Doula Ayurvedic Postpartum Care
Nature Flexible presence and practical support Specialist body work and Ayurvedic treatment
Visit length 3–4 hours flexible 3 hours structured
Focus Daily life, emotional holding, newborn care Physical restoration, womb recovery, nervous system
Investment From €65/hour From €280/visit
Many families choose both — Ayurvedic visits for deep physical restoration and postpartum doula visits for ongoing daily support. They complement each other beautifully.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book postpartum doula support during pregnancy? Yes — and I encourage it. Booking in advance means your support is confirmed and ready from the moment kraamzorg ends or if her support is cut short if you or your baby need to spend extra days at the hospital.
Can visits happen while kraamzorg is still ongoing? Yes — postpartum doula visits and kraamzorg can overlap if needed, particularly if you want additional emotional support or specialist guidance during the first week.
What if I need more hours than I booked? Additional hours can always be added to any package, provided I have space in my schedule. We can discuss this as your postpartum unfolds.
Do you support feeding in a specific way? No — I support whatever feeding journey you are on. Breastfeeding, bottle feeding, combination feeding. The goal is always a nourished baby and a supported mother.
Is this available if I had a C-section? Yes — and C-section recovery often benefits significantly from postpartum doula support given the longer physical recovery and reduced mobility in the early weeks.
Is this covered by Dutch health insurance? Postpartum doula services are not covered by basic Dutch health insurance.
Do you work across Amsterdam? Yes — I serve Amsterdam but not surrounding areas. Please mention your location in the intro call to confirm availability.
The fourth trimester is real. It is long. And it is not something you should have to move through alone.
I invite you to be held, not to rush through this time and to have a simple conversation to make sure your needs are met.
Flexible scheduling across the first 40 days English and Italian — Dutch and expat families welcome
